Munich: Before Spain and Portugal play in the Nations League final on Sunday, Kylian Mbappé led France to a consolation win. The Real Madrid player scored one goal and set up another as France overcame host Germany 2-0 in the third-place match.

Aurélien Tchouaméni set up club teammate Mbappé to score just before halftime after Germany dominated the first half, and Mbappé set up substitute Michael Olise to secure the victory in the 84th minute after the visitors' much-improved second-half performance.

France coach Didier Deschamps had shown his lack of enthusiasm for the game the day before, stating that his squad had little to gain from it, and it was clear which side was more motivated in front of the Stuttgart crowd, AP reported.

Germany squandered numerous opportunities before Deniz Undav's equaliser was ruled off due to a foul by Niclas Füllkrug in the buildup. France lacked Paris Saint-Germain player Ousmane Dembélé due to an injury.

Both teams were forced to compete for the consolation prize after losing their semifinals. Germany lost 2-1 to Portugal on Wednesday, and France fell 5-4 to European champion Spain on Thursday. Spain was facing Portugal later in Munich.
