Kerala woman arrested for preparing fake NEET admit card
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: A woman employee at an Akshaya Centre in Kerala has been arrested for allegedly preparing a fake admit card for the NEET examination held on Sunday. The accused, identified as Greeshma, was taken into custody by Pathanamthitta police on Monday morning from Neyyattinkara, a suburb near the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.
The impersonation was uncovered when an invigilator at the Pathanamthitta exam centre noticed discrepancies in the admit card of a male candidate appearing for the NEET exam. Although the candidate was allowed to take the exam, the invigilator alerted the examination centre in Thiruvananthapuram for verification. A subsequent cross-check revealed that another candidate, with the same registration number, was taking the exam at the Thiruvananthapuram centre.
Police swiftly arrived at the Pathanamthitta centre and took the male candidate into custody. His mother, who was present at the exam centre, reportedly told the police that she had entrusted Greeshma with submitting her son's NEET application and had paid the requisite fee for the process.
During questioning, Greeshma admitted that she had failed to complete the application on time. Realising the deadline had passed, she forged an admit card and handed it over to the candidate’s mother. Following her confession, the Akshaya Centre in Neyyattinkara has been sealed.
Greeshma, who joined the centre four months ago, is currently in Pathanamthitta police custody, and her formal arrest is expected soon.
Akshaya Centres are state-run service hubs offering a wide range of government services, including Aadhaar registration, revenue documents, pension applications, and vehicle registration. This incident has once again raised concerns about vulnerabilities in the NEET examination system, which remains a high-stakes event for medical aspirants.
